Business...

There it is, There it was. Some things were just not meant to turn out like you have planed. I am no longer in the band Silicone Feelings, which I suppose comes with mixed blessings. They have there way of doing things, and there ideas and I have mine. Best of luck to them and there new endeavors... Whatever those might be.

Onwards...

Inside The Artist - "Remergence"

"Remergence"
Ok, so as many of you know I have been super excited about this band Remergence as of late. I think they are great and one of the most refreshing bands out there right now. Last week I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Karen, Remergence's front woman, on her blog Blazing Minds for the segment - "Who's The Band?". It was an awesome experience and I was lucky enough to be able to return the favor! So I sat down with Karen and got some insight into the Inside of Remergence, who they are, how they work and how they feel about some of the issues we face as artists in the new millennium. Here it goes!
  • So how did you come upon the name of your band? Is it the first name you chose?I've always been a big fan of Pink Floyd and when I was originally for an artists name, I was listening to Atom Heart Mother and there is was, screaming at me saying "use me!"
  • Introduce each member and instrument played or role in the band? Well first of all there is myself Karen Woodham, founding member, most of the work we do is electronic so I would have to say I play computers, keyboards and samples! Jake Jones, JJ, has mainly been the production side of the duo, but on the last album "Lux Lucis Quod Vis Somnium" he came along and did a few tracks.
  • So what genre of music would you say you are in and who are your major influences? It has to be the electronica genre as our music is electronic based, I personally have always been influenced by Orbital, Sven Vath and Tangerine Dream. JJ has always had a more classical side.
  • How long have you known each other? Where did you first meet up? It's been a fair few years now, I started out as a solo artist and after several albums, I met JJ one day, in a pub of all places, and we got talking about music, so then we became a duo, but decided to keep the name Remergence as it was now a registered band name and it was already firmly rooted in fans minds.
  • How long has you band been performing/producing music? What inspired to produce your style of music?I started playing around with music very early on, drums and keyboards were always my forte, but the first album was released in 1997. JJ plays keyboards, bass, guitar and flute! The inspiration for the style of music came from early on when mucking about with samples on computers could produce some interesting sounds!
  • Are you signed to a record label (Indie or major)? I have my own label Atom Sounds which I started to promote myself and other bands that I have got friendly with over the years, but have recently been signed to the label EML Recordings..
  • Where can people find your music? Do you have an official website? Now this is a big one, you can find our music almost everywhere these days such as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Rhapsody, CDBaby, Shockhound to name but a few, you can also download tracks from ReverbNation (www.reverbnation.com/remergence), just do a search for Remergence and stacks of sites will pop up. You can find our official website at www.rembeatz.co.uk .
  • Have your ever performed live? If so where and to how many? No! But you just never know, we may do one day...
  • Who writes/produces the music and/or lyrics to your tracks? Both myself and JJ produce the music, we have used sample of vocals in the past, but we have also worked with EV from the group Corrientes on our last album on the track I Need You. We are looking to the new album been more "vocal" and our guest vocalists write the lyrics themselves.
  • How would you describe your music-making process? It's a creative nightmare, only kidding, it's usually a case of just getting a the love for a certain sound or beat and then creating something from it, sometimes it can be a slow process, but we would like to think it's worth it in the end.. What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?I would have to say that the biggest challenge was getting started! That first attempt trying to get people to hear our music that had never heard of us before and then the struggle to try and build some online presence, so that more people would find and listen to our music, but, we did it in the end and now we have a comfortable following from around the world!
  • What’s your ultimate direction for your band? Are you seeking fame and fortune? To have fun! We've never looked at getting rich, though it would be nice, but we just love producing music and as long as we are enjoying do it and people are asking for new material then we'll keep doing it! What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands? Get yourself a website, not on free hosting, but your own domain name with your bands name, join forums, twitter, social networks and websites that allow you to promote your music for free such as ReverbNation, this will help build your fanbase. Don't rush your first album out, take your time with it and make it special.
  • How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD? You can listen to a few tracks at ReverbNation (www.reverbnation.com/remergence) where we also have some fan exclusive tracks, you can also stream a good collection of albums on iTunes (www.itunes.com/remergence).
  • Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support? My family have been very supportive as well as all my friends that I have met over the net in that last few years, that have given me advice, listened to our music and specially those that have given us financial support by purchasing our tracks, albums and merchandise across the net..
  • Any last words? Thanks for the opportunity for the interview ;)

There you have it! Thanks so much for the interview Karen! Keep making amazing music!

Interview!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to fill you in on a few quick things. First, I was interviewed by my good friend Karen over at Blazing Minds Blog for her new segment "Who's The Band?" The interview was great and It was a huge honor to have Davidoth be the first band interviewed, I am so psyched about that! Looks like some great new fans were exposed to our music from that interview as well, so I am very grateful for Blazing Minds having me! Second, I will be posting an Interview with Karen from Remergence here friday, as well as a new "Artist of the Week" so stay tuned for that! And Lastly, there may be some upcoming info on the two in-progress Davidoth projects, and the TFH album posted soon, so stay tuned!

Good night tonight.

Tonight was pretty sweet. I spent the evening with my cousin Denver, who I taught the ropes of Engineering and the basics of production. We ended up taking a few runs on a track I was working on before he came over. Then we layed down 2 new tracks that came out pretty sweet! Also earlier today I started penning yet another piano piece, and recorded an early demo of it.
All in all, a sweet night.

Artist of the Week - Remergence : This is Electronica

Artist of the Week: Remergence

If you haven't heard of the English Electronica group Remergence, your missing out! I discovered them a while back on Twitter and have been following the mastermind behind them Karen Woodham since I joined Twitter.

I remember I found them on a #MusicMonday search and Karen had posted there homepage there http://www.rembeatz.co.uk/ , when I got onto the site the embedded music player started running and that was it, I was hooked!

What separates Remergence from other Electronica acts, in my opinion, is the tonal diversity they use in there music. Remergence isn't relying on a single genre of Electronic music that is radio, or rave friendly and getting into a safe spot with it. They are branching out. Sometimes a hard house beat blasting at you, sometimes a trance vibe scoops you up and fly's you into space, and sometimes they use minimalistic expressionism to make you forget there is anything going on around you.. except the music.

I also like that Karen doesn't over dominate, or under dominate her music with vocals. She has a great voice that naturally fits an electronica vibe, but she uses it right. Some songs she will sing all through, other songs she uses her voice as a tool in there arsenal of melodies and delivers outstanding results consistently. No corny, disco boggy fever bull shit. No over synthed techo vocoders. Just a consistently solid vocal range delivered where and when it's needed.

The production quality is spot on. Jake Jones takes the helm on the mixer and does an incredible job of mixing a blend of euphoria and soundscapes, or a sonic wall of power when the song calls for it. Jake also lays down Keys and Drums alongside Karen, and fulfills the mixing, sequencing and engineering duties. Together the duo creates amazing music!

Remergence also takes good care of their fans. Not only does there website stream a near endless amount of material for your listening pleasure, but they offer free tracks, and fan exclusives on a regular basis. Keep your fans happy, and they will keep you happy.

Electronica is a broad, amazing genre of music. People often associate it with raves and clubs, they don't realise that it's in there films, and on there TVs in soundtracks. Remergence is a group that stays true to the roots of Electronica and also paves the future of the genre with there constant innovation and by putting out quality music constantly. I highly recommend them, and if you like good music, especially electronica you need to visit there site and have a listen! You will not be sorry!

New Projects....

A new logo ---^
New, Huge plans are in the works inside the 'ol studio as of late. I haven't updated much lately because I have been SUPER busy but I did want to let everyone know what I am working on.

First, Silicone Feelings. This is a project I am super excited to be apart of. As you all know by now I have joined this band and am playing bass with them. I am super psyched about working with my long time friend Steph on her material because it is awesome stuff! Todd is a phenomenal drummer and it is going to be a blast working together and making good music! Keep your eyes out for some more information soon!

Second, Davidoth. We are still building our next "Masterpiece" working on "Something You Could Never Understand." I know we have been talking about this album for a long time, and I can assure you that it will be well worth the wait. Me and Ed are working very hard on getting the right songs for this album to really capture something deep and special. That takes time!!!

"28 Discs Later" went very well! I am super proud of the result and I am still working on the "DSE" don't worry, it's coming.

Third, The Focusing Halo. Me and Caitan have basically wrapped up the major recording phase of "Everything He Never Wanted". We have some fine tuning to do and a few over dubs and some light editing to work out before we shoot it up for a preliminary mastering. I am super proud of this project as well because me and Chaitan really got creative with this album and I love playing these songs. TFH is something great and I can tell you this.... Chaitan is already sending me new demos for the followup record... =)

Last, "Dreamlake"... What it is, I don't really know yet. What banner it will fly under? Don't know that either. I just know that I have stars aligning towards something special with this project. It feels like "28 Discs Later" did when I first broke ground on that project, it just came to me that the pieces of the puzzle were there and I should start building. With "Dreamlake" I want to do something familiar and yet different... Something refreshing but not over the top... I do have a collection of songs that I have written as of late that are still up in the air as to where I am going to go with them, and they would / could work well with my initial ideas for this endeavor. Hmm... This could get good!
Until later.

New Quotes

So today, This morning...I had a random brain meltdown... It involved my sudden and utter realization that, I was in fact.. making crazy and insane statments that made sense to me, but noone else. My co-workers gleefully pointed this out to me, and we all got a great laugh.

"I'm crying man!"

Seeing as this is not a "One Man Show" I opted to share my newfound wealth of knowledge with some of my buddies at work this aftrenoon. The advise was in straight from my mind, heart and soul in its purest, most honest form.

Since were all friends here... I will share this advise with you.

"When you have all of your parts that you need to complete something, its like Legos. But, fresh out da' box Legos ok. You got all the pieces, all 1003 of them. So you use all these perfect pieces and you build a fucking space ship. And you use this space ship and you fucking take off!"

It's that simple... AND, If you still have a question after this advise, and your sitting on the idea. Do I do it? Don't I do it? Is Dave right, how can he be right...he is just fucking crazy. To you I say this...

"DUDE, you throw the damn Legos on the table and you build that bitch!"

I wish to transform into my spirit form and descend deep into the ocean. To pass through the deep, dark liquid blue and free my mind from the chains that bind it. I will seek nothing but solice, and find answers to questions un-thought. After I had watched exotic and beautiful aquatic life surround me, and wrap me in an unending trance, I will shoot back up to the surface. I will travel by boat, men will tell tales of the spirit aboard there ship. In the end we will reach port, and as the men leave the ship I will transend into an airy, and luminescent glow as I travel deep into the night sky. I float endlessly and limitless through the night sky as I contemplate all I thought I knew, and what I must still learn.

come with me my love, into this neverending trance of solitude, I wanna just tell you...All the stars in the sky can't match one moment gazing into your eyes...

Just a mirror for the sun...

In this field of flowers I lay alone. Not yet forgotten, nor remembered. Trees of blackened leaves sprout all around me, blue fruit adorns them. Though I have lost my flesh, my blood, my bones I lay intact. Death has may times passed me here, yet he rides by me with a glazed distant look. Loud chants maw towards me as the torches twinkle in the distance. Why then as the rain falls, the sky melts and the stars explode do I feel amazingly exorbitant? I drift through the water in a current of light devoid of natural brightness, on a wave of sound into an endless all encompassing vacuum of space and no one can hear me. Feathers fall around and cover me with plasma, If I reach out there is no hand to guide me home. I turn back and watch the earth slowly fade away, and my face is expressionless.

More Amy goodness. I would ask that if you have never heard the album "Frank" you check this shit out, STAT! Seriously, this is Amy at her best to date, and everything is so beautiful in this performance, she looks beautiful, and very happy. Her voice is perfect the total show and the band is tight. Musicly "Frank" is pure genius, a time machine trip with solid modern / current vibes. This is what I live for.

Davidoth - The Drill (Pre-Release Video)

Ok peeps, here is a special look into what you can expect from "28 Disks Later". This is a video for the song "The Drill", Enjoy it and leave some feedback. Peace.

News from Music-Land

Ok, so today has been another all day solo jam sesh...

First, my boy Marc from N.U.D.E. shoots me an email and he's like, "Dude, we are ready to remix Truth for you. Send it on over." And so I send it. Then he says "Hey, you wanna remix one of our new songs? How about 'Rough, Rugged and Raw'? I will send you some alternate unreleased rap lyrics, see if you can do something with them." ... FUCKING SWEET!!! Here is a legit group of pro musicians who now have for the 3rd time asked me to remix for them, I'm so pumped! So, yeah I started work on that this morning.

Then I heard the new Eminem album Relapse... Instant inspiration, Back to the LAB!!!

So I get the keyboards and bass out again, and Blaw!!! I made a very special track.... It's called "The Drill". It's for a buddy of mine who is off doing his thing right now in the Army, Gotta try to finish this "28 Discs Later" Album fast so his mom can take it to him in a few weeks...

PLUS! I heard good news from the bank in regards to my new house, and new studio... NIIICE!!!

Very good productive day today! Still bumpin' Relapse on MySpace, can't wait for the 19th so I can go buy the hard copy!!! Feeling good with all my projects right now! "28 Disks" from Davidoth and "Everything" From The Focusing Halo almost ready! FUCK YES!!!

...Maybe I will give you all a nice surprise soon....

Eminem | Relapse

Eminem - Relapse

All I can say about this album is you have to check it out! Slim Shady, the alter ego of Eminem is back in all his murdering, psychotic madness. If you don't like extremely explicit lyrics STAY AWAY! this album definitely touches on some sore spots with some people, you have been warned.

Musically though the whole thing is tight start to finish. And Eminem flows pure through the whole thing. Still has his usually celebrity slams (including Amy Winehouse... GRR!) But he does so in that Eminem way, take it seriously if you so choose.

My favorite track is "Beautiful", One that everyone can listen to. Then "Crack A Bottle" and "Same Old Song & Dance". The whole album is great though. "Beautiful" is a heart felt ballad, it's kind of a retrospective piece, a track I can relate to. "Crack A Bottle" is the power track, with Dre and 50, its hot start to finish. Then "Same Old Song & Dance" Depicts Shady killing many pop starlets (hehehehe). All have ridiculous beats and tight flow with great lyrics. "Hello" Is hot as well and "We Made You" Is also hot, check those tracks out!

I would caution those of you who are squeamish of gay rape / incest lyrics to shy away from "Insane". It is probably the most graphic and difficult to hear track on the album. One again YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Though it is a tight track, listen to it if those types of lyrics don't bother you.

You Should Be Stronger Than Me...

Amy Winehouse is one of my favorite singers. So powerful in both her lyrics and her voice. The video above shows my favorite performance of hers. It is a pure and beautiful example of what music and musical performance should be like. This video reminds me exactly why I make music.

This was shot back in 2003 when her "Frank" album was out. Before she was a huge tabloid sensation and it's disgusting to me how so many people eagerly anticipate her down fall, and talk shit about such a talented musician. Below I shall address such people.

Yeah, so I know there are some people out there who talk shit about Amy Winehouse. Sure, she has problems.... What one of us doesn't? I understand that there are many people out there who have no idea what music is all about. They probably like Nickleback and shit like that, they probably tell you "I just love all music, but my favorite band is Nickleback!" And when you slap them in the mouth YOUR THE BAD GUY!!!! Those same douche bags with no taste are probably the same people who read the tabloids and talk shit about Amy Winehouse, they are most likely also the ones to say they "love music."
If you are one of these people, please politely go fuck yourself in a dark corner alone and realise that no matter how hard you try to peel off that fleshy shell you are encased in is inescapable. Your heart melted into a thick, oily puddle of goo in your chest a long time ago, and your tabloid magazines that slowly tear artists apart for your enjoyment are the only sustenance that you really can survive on, because you yourself don't even know who or what you are.
You need a fucking Bi-Sexual divorced expert on marriage, drinking a $8 non fat, super tall, iced, whipped double latte, caffeine free, double espresso. Who blows lines of coke before they eat there diet medication because there other friend with anorexia down the hallway told them they were getting to fat, You need them to tell you your Ok. Everything is going to be fine, the world loves you and even though you are a total useless pile of shit, your a reader... Your in, you know all the gossip.
So while your in line with all the other people just like you, you can understand how even though your going to be slaughtered after a mild shock before your boiled alive and de-feathered everything is Cool. Because you like Nickelback, and you know what Justin Timberlakes best friends pool boys brother ate the night he fucked Carson Daly. And that makes it cool for you to point out that Amy Winehouse has a drug problem and you don't. Have fun!!!

I have no idea where that rant came from, but I feel better now! I am even in a good mood today! =)

Rock on Amy!

Musician of the week | Jenni Tarma

Musician of the week Jenni Tarma

Ok, so if you know me you know I started music with the bass. And so then you know that I am a fan of other bass players, in particular...good ones. Also, if you know me... you know I love Kylie Minogue. Jenni Tarma is an amazing bassist and she is currently playing with Kylie.
What I am really loving right now is how her presence in the live lineup with Kylie has significantly fattened up the live sound. Her bass tone is so smooth and fluid and it has a unique vibe and tone that sets her apart from all of Kylie's past bassists. When you listen to the tracks live you can hear that distinctive tone saturating across the stage and it just sounds so tight and perfect. Usually with electro - pop acts you get a very processed bass sound, and that's if they even bring a live bassist out there with them.
With Jenni that unique vibe and tone of hers are present on all tracks. The tracks with synth or processed bass are made so much tighter by her unique sound layering into the mix and creating an almost surreal layer across the track... Its melds in perfectly and sounds better than studio mixes, its just HOT!!!
She is also a well trained bass player. She graduated from
Berklee College Of Music and trained under a ton of great musicians. She has played for may acts besides Kylie, including Melanie C, Har Mar Superstar, and Junior Senior.
That signature tone she gets is from playing Fender Basses. She plays the Fender Jazz Bass and Jaguar Bass. She also uses EMG pickups and Elites bass strings.
Check out her page
